Patient Representative
Sandy Simmons retired as executive director of St. Mary's Outreach Center, where she worked for 14 years. St. Mary's, a small non-profit in the Hampden area of Baltimore City, Md., aims to help older adults stay in their community and live self-sufficiently, proving one-on-one assistance and referral services. As a Certified Information and Referral Specialist in Aging, Sandy has helped low-income seniors receive assistance in all programs to which they were entitled. Through the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, she worked with the MTM program to help achieve that goal.
Before that, Sandy was the assistant director of the Senior Network of North Baltimore, where she worked as the Information and Referral/Assistance lead for four years. In that capacity, she collaborated with CMS, was instrumental in educating staff and seniors on Medicare Part D and visited seniors at senior centers and apartment complexes to assist those in need.
Her journey began in 1999 when her parents passed away and she realized they were living below the poverty line. Since then, she has viewed every senior she helps as “Mom” or “Dad.”
